About Mediterranean Food

The Mediterranean - endless stretches of azure coastline, edged with white surf caressing the golden sands while the hillsides, dotted with pristine white buildings gaze lazily downward, all below a clear, blue sky. And of course, there is the food! Mediterranean food is renowned for its fresh flavours that pull from the local flora and fauna.

Mediterranean food is influenced by the flavours of Italy, Spain, Greece, Turkey, Morocco, and other countries along the Mediterranean Sea. Typical aspects include fresh produce, simple preparation, minimal processing, and pronounced flavours. Herbs and spices become essential ingredients in Mediterranean cuisine.

As the cuisine is named after a body of water, it should come as no surprise to learn that fish and seafood are prevalent at Mediterranean restaurants. Meats such as lamb, chicken, pork, venison, and beef are also typical. Vegetables, grains, and legumes are prominently featured in Mediterranean dishes. This makes Mediterranean restaurants an ideal pick for meat-eaters, vegetarians, pescetarians, and omnivores alike! The menu tends to have something for everyone, from full vegetarian sets to steaks and tartare, the range at Mediterranean restaurants is impressive.

No Mediterranean dining experience would be complete without a beautifully paired wine. From bubbly Prosseco to white wines, red wines, and rosés; you can expect a full wine menu to pair with each dish on the menu.

Desserts tend to favour rich cheeses and fruits, ranging from creamy pannacotta and crème brule to fruit tarts and limoncello liquor.
